Leadership in America

Washington, DC is not only about power and politics. The city is alive with rich history, interesting architecture, the arts and entertainment. Designed primarily for leaders from abroad, it is the perfect location to learn about the nation’s beginnings and its development over time.

Leadership in America focuses on historical turning points and spotlights powerful, prominent women and men who influenced political, socio-economic, cultural and technological outcomes. Washington, DC, the history of this nation and the people who charted its course hold meaningful and practical lessons about leadership, achievements and challenges, success and failure, perseverance and resiliency.

Like all LeaderLife Expeditions, Leadership in America features visits to locations and sites that provide insights about leadership and ultimately equip participants with awareness and knowledge to enhance their leadership effectiveness and satisfaction.  In addition to the descriptions below, and with respect to the LLE process and methodology, each day will also include individual and group activities, discussions and debriefings, individual reflection and objective-setting time and one-on-one meetings with LLE executive coaches to process and reinforce personal reflections and take-aways.

DAY 1 Opening | After arriving in Washington and checking-in at our host hotel, attend a rooftop cocktail reception that features a 360-degree view of the city. Following the “meet and greet” reception, enjoy dinner with your fellow participants and the LLE team. Of course, if you arrive early, take in some of the sights!

DAY 2 Highlights | Get to know members of your group and the LLE staff and attend a detailed program overview and orientation. After lunch, meet one-on-one with your executive coach and join your group members for an afternoon activity. Gather for dinner at one of Washington DC’s finest restaurants.

DAY 3 Excursion Highlights | Attend a lively and entertaining talk/discussion about the history of the United States given by a scholar/expert at the National Portrait Gallery – a museum that features a myriad of unique individuals who shaped this nation – presidents, actors, artists, literary figures, activists and visionaries. Following this, enjoy a guided tour of the Washington monuments - including the Lincoln and Thomas Jefferson memorials. In the evening take some time to rest, relax or explore.

DAY 4 Excursion Highlights | Visit the National Museum of African American History and Culture and enjoy some “time on your own” later in the afternoon. Reconnect with your fellow participants for cocktails and a “collaborative dinner” where you will prepare a tasty and unique evening meal under the direction of a Washington chef.

DAY 5 Excursion Highlights | Followed by morning program activities in the hotel, we will visit the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum to learn more about the history of the United States space program and aeronautical development. During the visit we will discuss the impact of leadership and vision with respect to space exploration and technological advances. In the evening, enjoy dinner and a performance at the Kennedy Center, Washington’s premier performing arts venue.

DAY 6 Excursion Highlights and Closing | Our final day begins with a guided tour of the United States Capitol - the building that houses the United States Congress and where legislation is enacted or rejected. Upon returning to the hotel, you will engage with your executive coach for a final integration and goal-setting session, and we will conclude the program and gather for a cocktail reception and group dinner at another fine Washington, DC restaurant.
